After the abolishment in 1933 of the Standardgor Project, the institute of standardised cities for industrial centres, the remaining architects of the international brigade of Ernst May were transferred to the Gorstroy Project, the Soviet State Institute of Urban Design. In 1934 the last members of the Bauhaus Brigade joined them.

Different than at the Standardgor, where the Western Europeans had designed as a relatively autonomous group, at Gorstroy they worked closely together with Soviet engineers and economists.
