>building the van nelle factories/ van der vlugt/ conflict
In 1928 a foreign art expert (possibly the brother of architect Hans Schmidt) was invited to give a lecture at the Opbouw in Rotterdam. During the afternoon he was shown around the Van Nelle factories, which were referred to him as the Stam Buildings.
In the evening at the Opbouw the speaker compliments in his lecture Mart Stam with his factory. Van der Vlugt gets furious and asks Stam to publicly rectify the statement. Stam refuses and Van der Vlugt dismisses Stam on the spot.
