The USSR saw MayÕs working method in Frankfurt as a solution to their problems of urbanisation of the old agricultural Russia and invited him to come over. With his own brigade of 30 Western specialists, May designed more than 20 cities in less than 3 years.
May has autographed all the plans of the brigade (in Cyrillic letters). May was an organiser, a manager. He could not cope with the bureaucratic way things were being handled in the Soviet Union. Always there was someone saying: "Zavtra, zavtra", which meant May should not be so impatient but had to wait till tomorrow.
Above his
working table May had hung a small notice which said: "Protiv Zavtra" ("Against
tomorrow"). An unemployed architect in Frankfurt about May: "May is the successor
of our dear God. Since the creation of the world, no-one has had such an opportunity
to create life out of nothing."
