One wooden quarter of provisional houses and one brick quarter were built according to StamÕs design. Forty years after their expiring date, the wooden houses finally were demolished in the beginning of the nineties. The first brick quarter of Magnitogorsk still exists. The houses are made with light stones and are in a bad condition. The further remains of the endeavours of the May brigade include a hospital by Hebebrandt and two kindergartens by Margarete Schutte-Lihotzky.

Nowadays people mainly live on the Right Bank of the river, where the air is less polluted. There you find no rigid strip development, but a city with broad boulevards, squares, fountains and statues. The USSR wanted a monumental socialist city: living between pillars and working between chimneys.
