As a committed Communist the Dutch Ir. Sebald
Rutgers fully supported the Russian Revolution. In 1922, in the days of the
New Economic Politics, he founded an autonomous international trust with the
help of Lenin, to exploit the neglected mines of the Kemerovo district: the
AIK Kuzbass.
Most of the specialists and technicians came
from Holland, and the workers were recruited in the USA. All profits were reinvested
in the company. As intended the Soviet Union took over as soon as the AIK had
become sufficiently efficient. This was in 1927.
